Emergency Call

Our youngest patients hold a special place in our hearts, as they require extra care and attention, especially during the vulnerable time of surgery. We also understand the concerns and emotions of parents when entrusting their children to our care. We consider it an honor to have this responsibility and work diligently to uphold the trust placed in us.

Before Surgery:

Once the surgery date is set, there are a few steps to follow. Depending on the procedure, your child may require a blood test, though this is not always necessary.

Every child will meet with the anesthetist to discuss the most suitable anesthesia for the procedure. Some children may only require sedation through a gas mask, while others will need general anesthesia, a combination of intravenous narcotics and gas sedation. Please feel free to ask the anesthetist for further details during this consultation.

The day before surgery, we will call you to confirm the exact time and location of the procedure. We will also remind you not to feed your child in the morning. We try to schedule surgeries early in the morning to minimize discomfort from being on an empty stomach.

Please notify us if your child is feeling unwell, has a fever, or is taking antibiotics within one week of the surgery, as we may need to reschedule the procedure.

During Surgery:

On the day of the surgery, you will be in a designated area with your child. Here, they will be given Midazolam, a mild tranquilizer that helps alleviate anxiety. Once the medication takes effect, children are generally calm and ready to say goodbye to their parents. They are welcome to bring their favorite cuddly toy along for comfort.

Upon entering the operating theater, we ensure the environment is prepared, and your child remains comfortable and warm. A parent will be allowed to join the post-operative observation area once the child wakes up. After any necessary monitoring, you can wait in the recovery area, where you can rest and reconnect with your child.

After approximately an hour, we will offer your child some water to check their tolerance. If there are no complications, you will be ready to leave the hospital.
Before discharge, we will provide you with a detailed medical report, including instructions for any medications and care needed during the recovery period. Please ensure you pick up the prescribed medications from the pharmacy.

After Surgery:

General Postoperative Guidelines:

No physical activity or sports for 1 week

Do not let your child sleep alone for the first 3 nights

We will call you on the morning following surgery to check on your child’s progress

A personal follow-up appointment is scheduled for 1 week after surgery

Follow any specific dietary restrictions based on the type of surgery

Ensure your child takes the prescribed medications (painkillers and possibly antibiotics), stays hydrated, and adheres to the dietary guidelines

If you notice any complications, please contact us immediately

We are here to support both you and your child throughout the entire process, ensuring a smooth and positive recovery experience.
